Discovering Hidden Gems: The Best Pubs with Rooms in the Peak District
6 June 2026
Looking for a cozy spot to unwind after a day of exploring the breathtaking Peak District? Join me as I share my favorite pubs with rooms that offer the perfect blend of comfort and local charm!
As I set out to explore the stunning landscapes of the Peak District, I quickly learned that the journey is often as delightful as the destination itself. After a long day of hiking or wandering through quaint villages, finding a cozy place to rest is essential. And let me tell you, the pubs with rooms in this region are nothing short of charming!
One of my absolute favorite spots is The Pack Horse Inn in Hayfield. This historic pub is nestled at the foot of the beautiful Kinder Scout and is known for its warm atmosphere and friendly staff. I remember sitting by the fire on a chilly evening, enjoying a hearty steak and ale pie while the delicious scent of hops filled the air. The rooms upstairs are spacious and inviting, with rustic touches that make you feel right at home. If you’re an early riser, don’t miss the sunrise hike up Kinder Scout; the views are absolutely breathtaking!
Just a short jaunt away is The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. While it might not be a classic pub, they offer lovely rooms above their famous bakery that's worth a visit! I had the pleasure of staying here, savoring a traditional Bakewell pudding fresh from the oven right after checking in. There’s nothing quite like waking up to the smell of pastries wafting through the air! Plus, you’re right in the heart of Bakewell, perfect for exploring the bustling market and nearby riverside walks.
Another favorite of mine is The Royal Oak in Hurdlow. This place embodies everything you could want in a country pub: a roaring fire, local ales, and scrumptious home-cooked meals. I still reminisce about the Sunday roast I enjoyed after a long day exploring the surrounding hills. The rooms are cozy; I remember sinking into the soft bed after a long day, lulled to sleep by the sounds of nature outside. And if you fancy a stroll, the surrounding fields are perfect for a leisurely post-dinner walk.
For those who crave a touch of luxury, don’t overlook The Pig of Lead in Castleton. Although it’s more of a boutique experience than your typical pub, it offers a wonderfully unique atmosphere. The proprietor is incredibly knowledgeable about the area, providing excellent recommendations for hikes and local sights. I stayed in one of their beautifully decorated rooms complete with plush furnishings that made it feel like a luxurious escape. After a day of exploring the breathtaking Mam Tor, I relaxed with a pint of local beer in their gorgeous beer garden, watching the sunset over the hills.
Lastly, I have to mention The Bulls Head in Monyash, a gem that feels like a visit to a friend’s home. This pub is a hub of activity, known for its local brews and vibrant community feel. I enjoyed a lively night of laughter and shared stories with fellow travelers. The rooms here are homely and welcoming, and you can’t leave without trying their extensive game-based menu. Trust me, the rabbit stew is divine!
As I reflect on my experiences, I can't help but feel grateful for the charm and comfort these pubs provide in the Peak District. Each one offers a unique blend of local flavor and warm hospitality. So whether you're hiking the hills, exploring picturesque villages, or simply seeking a pint by the fire, these pubs with rooms are the perfect places to unwind and recharge. I can’t wait to go back, and I hope you get the chance to experience them for yourself!
